How does Chinese Herbal Medicine work?

Herbal medicine is often an important part of an effective treatment plan. When many people think of herbal medicine, they think of taking a single herb for a specific health problem (e.g., Saint John’s Wort for depression or Turmeric for inflammation). However, Chinese herbology is quite a bit different. In Chinese herbal medicine, herbs are generally prescribed in a formula which can be a combination of up to 20 different substances. These herbs work in unison to address the specific needs of each individual patient. So for example, we could have 10 different patients coming in for migraines, and those patients may be prescribed 10 different herbal formulas based on their unique needs.

We understand that some people do not wish to include herbs in their treatment, and we are never pushy or insistent on their use.
